Mold Concept Drawings

  • Should provide sufficient information to allow a mold concept and dimensional review.

  • Intended to lead to approval of purchase of raw materials for cavities/cores and mold bases.

  • Drawings available by fax (8.5" x 11") and in digital form.

  • Drawings should show:

Enough views and cross sections to analyze overall concept of the mold.
Overall dimensions of mold.
Location of gate(s) and runner (when applicable).
Ejector stroke.
Materials of cavities, cores and mold base.

Preliminary Mold Drawings

  • Should provide sufficient information to allow a mold concept, injection, ejection, cooling and dimensional review.

  • Intended to lead to the approval to proceed with assembly and detail mold design, programming, manufacturing of mold bases, order of accessories and pre-machining of cavities and cores.

  • Drawings are provided in digital form and can be made available on full size plots (scale 1:1 if possible) upon request.

  • Drawings should show:

Enough views and cross sections to analyze overall concept of the mold.
Overall dimensions of mold, cavity inserts, and slides.
Location, design and dimensions of gate(s) and runner (when applicable).
Ejection layout and stroke.
Location of water, air and hydraulic lines.
Location of tie bars of the press (if information available).

Assembly Mold Drawings

  • Should provide sufficient information to allow a full mold design review. Drawings should have enough views and sections, so that it is possible to clearly identify all mold components, and enough detail of mold concept and actions (if necessary an action drawing should be included). Intended to lead to the approval to proceed with manufacturing of cavities and cores and all other components of the mold.

  • Drawings are provided in digital form and can be made available on full size plots (scale 1:1 if possible) upon request.

  • Assembly drawings should include:

Injection view, ejection view, main cross section and secondary cross section.
List of materials and Diagrams (Water, Hydraulic, Air and Electric).
On the views and cross sections all components of the mold must be identified by item numbers (Same as shown on the list of materials).

  • The drawings should show:

On page 1 notes identifying part material, shrinkage, type of texture and reference (when applicable), maximum opening of mold (when applicable), cavity and core finish and weight of the mold.
Location, detail and dimensions of gate(s) and runner(s).
Location of all ejector pin(s), ejector bars or any other method used for ejection of the parts.
Size and location of the KO pattern(s).
Location of all water, hydraulic and air circuits.
Location of parting line locks.
Location of all vents and vent collectors.
Location of "offset" guide.
Size and location of support pillars.
Radius and size of locating ring.
Identification of all engraving on outside mold.
Location of eye bolt holes and "feet" if required.
Shading of press tie bars on injection and ejection views (if information is available).

  • List of materials should Identify Item numbers of each component, description, quantity, size, catalog item #, material and hardness.

  • Diagrams (Cooling, Hydraulic, Air and Electric) can be drawn in a smaller scale than 1:1.

  • Cooling diagrams should show all inlets/outlets on four sides of mold and details when
    special circuits are required.

  • Hydraulic and air circuits should show Inlets/outlets with identification of each circuit,
    maximum and minimum pressure (psi).

  • Electric diagrams should identify all circuits and connections, zones, voltage (volts),
amperage (amps), wattage (watts), resistance (ohms) and notes regarding special connections.

Detail Mold Drawings (Optional)

  • Should provide manufacturing details about the major non standard components of a mold. Details are to convey dimensional information, type of material, hardness and finish of each component.

  • Drawings are provided in digital form and can be made available on full size plots (scale 1:1 if possible) upon request.

  • Unless otherwise specified the components to be detailed are:

Cavities and cores
Slides
Stripper plates or special ejection components
Hot runner components (if custom made)

General

  • All dimensions to be in inches or inches and millimeters. Dimensional datum to be the center of the mold.

  • All notes to be in English or to be bilingual.

  • Mold design, CAD Files, programming data, models and drawings are regarded as private and confidential information. These are the exclusive property of CREATIVE and their customers and cannot be disclosed to, or used by third parties without CREATIVE and their customers written consent.

  • Final mold drawings have to reflect all changes and corrections done to the mold (including weld, inserts, etc.), these drawings can and should only be available after the final inspection of the mold.

  • One full set of mold drawings is delivered with the mold, digital files are supplied separately. All 2D files are available in Cadkey or IGS formats. All 3D files are available in Delcam or IGS formats.
